MORE ABOUT HIGHLANDS

The Highlands has a population of approximately 38,000 residents and is located in eastern Louisville. Historically, it was not developed for residential use until the 1800s, when it was connected to the rest of the city with a fine turnpike. Once businesses sprang up along the road, and streetcar service was added, residential development increased. In the late 20th century, the area became a hot spot for night life, with clubs, pubs, bars and upscale restaurants. Today, the Highlands is a fine place to live, with plenty of mixed use areas and lots of benefits for its residents.

The Highlands neighborhood is bordered by East Broadway in the north, Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Road in the east, Rufer Avenue in the south, and Barret Avenue in the west. Most of the commercial district is along Bardstown Road. It is in close proximity to other Louisville neighborhoods such as Germantown, Crescent Hill and Old Louisville. The Highlands itself is comprised of several different neighborhoods such as Phoenix Hill, Cherokee Triangle, Deer Park, Tyler Park and Belknap. Residents are just a short drive from downtown Louisville, making it a fine commuting neighborhood for those that desire to live closer to work.

When it comes to things to see and do in the Highlands, residents will never feel bored. Of course, the night life is what brings visitors from miles around, and it includes movie theaters, restaurants, coffee shops, galleries, pubs, bars and night clubs. Fine shops, boutiques and one-of-a-kind stores are also easy to find in the Highlands. There are also plenty of things to enjoy in the immediate area of the Highlands. Examples include Cherokee Park, Cave Hill National Cemetery, Louisville Nature Center and Preserve, Louisville Zoo, Seneca Golf Course, Cherokee Golf Course, and many more.
