With a population of approximately 6,000 residents, Prospect is located in both Jefferson and Oldham Counties. Historically, it was first settled in the late 1870s as a railroad stop and was primarily a farming community until the 1960s, when many subdivisions were built in Prospect to accommodate people leaving the urban areas. Today, Prospect is a growing community with plenty of warm welcomes for newcomers and visitors.

Prospect is bordered by Oldham County on the north and east, Harrods Creek on the south and the Ohio River on the west. The city’s main road is US Highway 42, which runs through the center of town and helps connect residents with the greater Louisville area. Because it is just a 15-minute drive from downtown Louisville, Prospect is a fine bedroom community for those that need to work in Louisville.

Prospect is comprised of several different neighborhoods, each with their own heritage and style. Notable neighborhoods include Estates of Hunting Creek, Bridgepointe, Harrods Creek Overlook, Sutherland, Innisbrook, River Glades, and Hillcrest, among others. Depending on which neighborhood in Prospect, the youngest residents can attend any of the highly regarded public schools that serve the city.

The community amenities in Prospect are comprehensive and residents have lots of good things to say about their home town. The Lawrence C. Falk Library provides lots of opportunities for residents, and the children’s section is outstanding. Shopping and dining are delightful at places like Paddock Shops, Prospect Village Shopping Center and more. The city’s four parks are delightful, and include Cowley Park, Harrods Creek Park, Little Hunting Creek Park, and Putney Pond and Woodlands Park. Hunting Creek Country Club is also popular and brings visitors from miles around.
